Journal Article 2022 09 27 Reflecting on the concept of fashion design shows its close connection with fashion and the distinction of this profession from tailoring. Although there are extensive and reliable documents about the history of clothing in Iran, there is no detailed research about the position of the clothing design profession and its formation in the social history of Iran. Based on a descriptive-analytical approach and using historical sources and archaeological evidence, this article seeks to clarify the ambiguous situation of the background of the fashion design profession in Iran. According to the findings, there are no serious signs of the existence of the fashion design profession before contact with the West among the activities of Iranian tailors and other related people and jobs such as their guild supervisors, painters, and courtiers. By studying historical documents, the connection with the West during the second Qajar period, the presence of European tailors, and the establishment of Western schools seem to have been effective in the formation and promotion of this skill as a new profession in Iran. However, the findings show that this issue was not related to the lack of familiarity of Iranians with tailoring skills, but due to their disregard for fashion and frequent changes in clothing. تأمل در مفهوم طراحی لباس بیانگر ارتباط نزدیک آن با مقولۀ مد و تمایز این حرفه از خیاطی است. گرچه اسناد گسترده و معتبری از تاریخ لباس در ایران وجود دارد، دربارۀ جایگاه حرفۀ طراحی لباس و نحوۀ شکل­گیری آن در تاریخ اجتماعی ایران تحقیقات و اطلاعات دقیقی در دست نیست. پژوهش پیش رو با محوریت مسئلۀ چیستی جایگاه و رستۀ شغلی طراحی لباس و چگونگی شکل­گیری آن در میان سایر حرف و مشاغل در تاریخ اجتماعی ایران قصد دارد وضعیت مبهم پیشینۀ آن را روشن سازد. پاسخ به پرسش­های پژوهش با جست­وجو در منابع تاریخی به ­روش توصیفی ـ تحلیلی همراه با گردآوری داده­ها به ­شیوۀ اسنادی انجام شده ­است. یافته­ها فرضیۀ وجود نشانه­هایی جدی از مراحل فرایند طراحی لباس را در میان فعالیت­های خیاطان ایرانی و نیز سایر افراد و مشاغل مرتبط با این حرفه نظیر ناظران صنفی، نقاشان و درباریان رد می­کنند. از بررسی اسناد تاریخی معلوم می­شود ارتباط با غرب در دورۀ دوم قاجار و تغییر سلیقۀ دربار، حضور خیاطان اروپایی و تأسیس مدارس غربی در شکل­گیری و ترویج این مهارت به­عنوان حرفه­ای جدید در ایران مؤثر بوده است. همچنین یافته­ها حاکی از تبحر ایرانیان در حرفۀ خیاطی است و از سوی دیگر بیانگر بی­علاقگی ایشان به عنصر اصلی سازندۀ طراحی لباس، یعنی مد و تغییرات مکرر در طرح لباس­ها، در پیش از دورۀ دوم قاجار است. https://irhj.sbu.ac.ir/article_103187_0d83f4801b8a0d8f1badee3c4338f52f.pdf
