The endowment institution in the Pahlavi period, in the context of the centralizing policies of the government, the transformation of the legal system of ownership, and the development of new mechanisms for registration and administrative supervision, faced significant changes in the structure, function, and method of administering endowments. In the meantime, endowments made by women, as one of the less-seen aspects of Iran's social and economic history, have provided the opportunity for a more detailed analysis of the issues of gender, ownership, and social actions in the context of the transformation of the institution. The present article, using a historical-documentary approach, studies the women endowments of Gilan in the Pahlavi period and attempts to explain their position and role within the framework of the developments of the endowment institution in this period. The research question is: What changes have women's endowments in Gilan experienced under the influence of legal and administrative changes in the Pahlavi era in terms of the type and composition of endowments, the way in which endowment letters are organized, and the direction of spending of endowment income? The research findings show that as a result of the more formalization of legal processes and the strengthening of administrative supervision over women's endowments, from the perspective of legal formulation, the limits of the donor's authority, and the determination of spending, women's endowments have moved towards regulation. The research results also show that the tradition of women's endowments in Gilan changed from a customary and religious approach to an organizational and governmental approach.
